With the quantity increasing, the dump sites and area also need to increase. The phenomenon of scramble for land has been become to a serious problem nowadays. Most dump sites in the outskirts pile up the waste on the open-air. The hazardous substance in the C and D waste (such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons released by oil paint, coating, pitch) will cause soil pollution and reduce soil quality after a long-term sun-scorched and rain-drenched through the leachate.
Moreover, the smaller pieces of rubble will enter into soil; change the composition of the soil, destroy the soil structure and reduce the productivity of the soil under various external forces.
In addition, the heavy metals are relatively higher in construction and demolition waste. Under the combination of various factors, the waste will produce chemical reaction to increase heavy metal content in the soil and further in the crop. The contaminated soil usually doesn’t have the ability of natural self-purification and is hard to lessen the degree of soil pollution through dilution and diffusion. In this way, it must take costly renovation to solve this problem.
